Be a Sports 'Photographer'

Life is full of competitions and no one is immune to them no matter what their age, occupation or lifestyle.  School, for example, involves lots of competitive events, as do business and politics and the sports environment in general.

That being so, one of the easiest ways to become a winner in any or all of the many areas of competition confronting most people, is to study the strengths and weaknesses of our opponents.  How do we do that?

Using sport as an example, we can study strengths and weaknesses of our opponents by video taping performances of their opposing teams.  As a business venture you can create the video and sell it to an opposing team or player.  And that means, if you are skilled at taking video films, you can always make money recording sporting events and selling copies to opposing individuals and teams.

You will have to look around for individuals and teams to film, and you must sell yourself to coaches and managers before taking video films. You could have a set fee for selling your films or hire them out by the hour.

If you’re new to the business you could record one performance and let the coach see it free of charge, then let that person judge your skills.  If you are as good as you say, every trainer is a likely regular client for your service.

The benefit of this job is that once you are chosen to become the videographer, you get to work while watching your favorite team play!

But there is a slight problem for the new business owner, being that if you specialise in football games, for example, you can’t possibly record all the week’s games by yourself.  So when your client base grows you’ll need to enlist others to video some games for you.

Just because you have a regular band of clients, that does not mean you can give up promoting your business and just rely on repeat business and word of mouth referrals.  That’s because people retire and the sports business in particular is constantly parting company with coaches and managerial staff.  And that could result in your client base dwindling very quickly indeed.  So you need to be constantly looking for new clients, and always make a big thing of welcoming new staff taking over from your past established clientele.

You should market your business on and off the Internet, and you definitely must have a web site featuring some of your best videos.

It’s not just professional teams you’ll be catering for, and football is just one of many sports you’ll be filming.  So you should be looking to film all types of sports men and women, both individually and in teams, and looking for buyers among coaches in colleges and universities, individual sports men and women, and so on.

Your most important piece of equipment is a good video camera and plenty of flash bulbs and lenses.  You should preferably have two of all your most important pieces of equipment, and always be well stocked up with peripherals like film.
