One of the most
exciting things about mystery shopping is getting paid for whatever
tasks you carry out for the mystery shopping company from which you
receive your assignment. How and when you get paid for a
mystery shop depends on whether you act as freelance mystery shopper
or employee of the market research or hiring company, or you are
self-employed and running your own mystery shopping business.
As a contracted
employee of a mystery shopping company you will probably be paid in
the same way as other employees, and will most likely have National
Insurance and Income Tax deducted at source.
Freelancers and self-employed might
be asked to invoice after each shop or to sign an appropriate
section of the instructions pack confirming the task has been
completed and indicating what payment is due.
Expenses might be
paid before or just after the shop and you will probably have to
submit receipts for items claimed.
Most firms pay once a
month on submission of claim forms detailing fees, expenses and
items you are allowed to buy and take home.
