The idea
we’ll consider now is where you create a website with online forums,
where only people with specific niche interests are invited to join,
and where all members might make money for you based on products and
advertisements featured at your forum.
Your
forum, or forums, can focus on absolutely any subject at all, as
long as enough people are interested in the subject to ultimately
make money for you. A useful example might be a forum catering
for people with a passion for gardening, or homeschooling their
children, running a business from home, or trying to lose weight or
look younger longer.
If you’re
not sure what an online forum is, you are not alone. That’s because
forums are fairly new for the majority of us and they are picking up
in popularity quickly, and that is why it’s a good time to get
involved in starting one, or more, forums of your own.
As
Wikipedia explains ‘An Internet forum, or message board, is an
online discussion site. It is the modern equivalent of a traditional
bulletin board, and a technological evolution of the dialup bulletin
board system. From a technological standpoint, forums, or boards are
web applications managing user-generated content. People
participating in an Internet forum may cultivate social bonds and
interest groups for a topic may form from the discussions.’
In order
for people to become part of your forums and be able to post their
own comments, you should get them to register as members, or users,
of a particular forum, or site.
You will
also need your members to verify their age (it’s a legal
requirement), and get them to read and sign up indicating their
acceptance of a declaration of the terms of service you offer to
them. These terms indicate what members are allowed to do in
the forum, and what they are not allowed to do, and you must make
sure everyone agrees to your terms before using the forum.
Also,
make it clear what people must pay to join the forum and set up a
way of receiving payment from them. After all of this, you should to
furnish them with a web form to fill out and ask them to provide a
username, password, and email address.
If you
decide to open an online forum of your own, you will be responsible
for checking postings, and you will usually be referred to as the
administrator. As administrator, you will control all facets
of the operations of the forum, which will include setting
permissions, banning certain users, creating user groups or
moderators, and so on.
A
moderator has the power to edit or delete posts, and lock or unlock,
move, delete, and split topics in the forum. Basically what you’ll
be doing is keeping the forum from going off topic, and preventing
individuals from posting abusive or offensive material on the forum.
If you
don't have time to do all of this, you may want to give the task to
someone else. So you could offer free access to the forum for
someone else to do the job of administrator, and provide a salary
for keeping the forum cleaned up and running smoothly.
When
you’re starting out, try to keep topics for your forums to
informational topics, and try to avoid controversial subjects that
could lead to members losing their tempers or becoming
argumentative. Too much aggression and nastiness at the forum
will result in you receiving many complaints from members, and that
won’t find many of them returning to click on advertising links or
buy products recommended at your site!
